We love that it is an archipelago with a vibrant urban life, and no matter what kind of traveler you are, there is something in Stockholm for you. In this blog post, we will show you the top 10 must-see attractions we enjoyed the most, so read on to learn more.

What is worth to see in Stockholm?

In short, a lot! But below, you will find the top things in Stockholm that should be on your bucket list for Stockholm.

  1. Gamla Stan – The Old Town Charm
  2. Vasa Museum
  3. Abba Museum
  4. Djurgården Island
  5. City Hall and Tower
  6. The Royal Palace of Stockholm
  7. The Changing of Guards
  8. Stockholm’s Metro Stations
  9. Island Hopping
  10. Skansen

Start your Stockholm adventure in Gamla Stan, the city’s historic Old Town. Cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, and medieval architecture create a charming atmosphere. The colorfulness of the main square is beautiful.

Step back in time at the Vasa Museum, home to the incredibly well-preserved 17th-century warship, Vasa. Marvel at this maritime masterpiece and learn about its fascinating history. We thought visiting a museum about one ship would be boring, but we were pleasantly surprised. Read more about our waddle through the Vasa Museum here.

The ABBA Museum stands tall among the many attractions that beckon music enthusiasts, celebrating the iconic Swedish pop group that swept the world with their catchy tunes and flamboyant style. But even if you are not a super fan, you will enjoy the visit. Though if you are a fan of life, we are, then it will be bliss for you. Read about our waddle through the Abba Museum here.

To escape Stockholm’s hustle and bustle, we recommend waddling around Djurgården, a peaceful island oasis. Aside from beautiful parks, you’ll find cultural attractions like the mentioned ABBA Museum. You can even rent a bike or simply take a waddle along the waterfront. There are many museums to explore here, and though we only visited two of them, we really enjoyed the waddle around.

The City Town Hall and Tower stand tall among the iconic structures that grace Stockholm’s skyline. Before you waddle up the City Town Hall Tower, we encourage you to waddle around the area. Overall, it’s wonderful here, and there is much to see. In the end, we didn’t visit the City Town Hall at all and just waddled up the tower, but we enjoyed the surroundings nonetheless. Read more about our visit here.

If you are considering which attraction to spend your money on, then this is it: the Royal Palace is our absolute favorite. It is the official residence of His Majesty the King of Sweden, with over 600 rooms. None of the Royal family members live at the palace, but they all work from there, and it is used for representative purposes. And to waddle through the richly decorated rooms will take you into another time. You will forget that you are in the busy city of Stockholm. Read about our waddle through the palace here.

It draws people in from all around the world, and as you explore the palace, don’t miss the changing of the guards. It’s an age-old ritual that symbolizes the seamless transition of power and showcases the blending of tradition and modernity. They change every day, precisely at noon, and it’s another experience you will remember. Read more about it here, together with all the practical information.

Stockholm’s metro stations are a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. As you research what to see in the city, the longest art gallery in the world will be on each list. There are many stations to explore, but these are the top five ones we recommend to waddle.

You can embark on a boat tour to explore the Stockholm Archipelago, a network of over 30,000 islands. Enjoy stunning landscapes, quaint villages, and the tranquility of the Baltic Sea. Only Stockholm’s city center consists of 14 islands. One tip: during the winter season (from September until the end of April), some of the longer ferry rides are free. Check the Waxholmsbolaget and SL company websites for details and timetables.

Visit Skansen, the world’s oldest open-air museum, to explore traditional Sweden. Waddle through historical buildings, encounter native wildlife at the zoo, and enjoy panoramic city views.

Remember, while exploring Stockholm’s top attractions is a fantastic way to experience the city, feel free to wander off the beaten path. Stockholm’s hidden gems are just as enchanting, offering a more intimate and authentic view of this Scandinavian treasure.

Happy travels, and waddle on!
