Eating at Brejk Bistro in Prešov: Our Take on This Local Favorite
Over the past few days, we’ve been exploring what eastern Slovakia has to offer in gastronomy, from local favorites to places putting their own spin on familiar dishes. After checking out several spots in Košice, we headed to nearby Prešov, where Brejk Bistro has been on our radar since it opened. So, we finally waddled in to see what it is all about. Here’s what we ordered and how it tasted.
First Impressions
From the outside, Brejk Bistro looks clean and inviting, which makes its location an even bigger pleasant surprise. It sits in an area of Prešov where you might not expect to find a restaurant with this kind of atmosphere, and the convenient parking lot right in front makes it easy to arrive by car. Inside, the mood changes completely: beautiful pendant lamps, dark walls, patterned floors, greenery hanging from the ceiling, and warm wooden tables create a thoughtfully designed space that feels both stylish and welcoming. Even before the food arrived, we already liked what we saw.

The Experience
We arrive shortly after 2 p.m. for a late lunch, and several tables are still free. That gives the restaurant a relaxed feel, without the sense that we have arrived between busy service periods. Inside, the design does much of the work: wooden tables, patterned flooring, hanging lamps and darker tones give the room character, while the seating leaves enough space between tables to feel comfortable. It isn’t trying to be ultra-modern, and that works in its favor. The whole space feels welcoming and gives the impression of stepping into a different part of the city.

Service took a little longer to start. We waited for the menus before we could decide what to order, which is noticeable, especially when the restaurant isn’t busy. Once the waiter got to us, however, he was attentive and clearly put in the effort to keep things moving. Overall, the service does not detract from the meal, but the initial wait is something we would mention in a review.
What We Ordered
We turned to the menu, which took a broad approach to bistro cooking rather than focusing on one particular cuisine. Alongside the à la carte menu, Brejk Bistro also offered breakfast and a daily lunch menu, giving diners plenty of choice depending on when they visited. The main menu covered everything from Slovak classics and lighter dishes to pizza, pasta, steaks, and Mediterranean-inspired plates, making it a menu designed to suit different appetites and occasions.
Overall, Brejk Bistro gave us a meal with generous portions and enough variety to make the menu worth exploring. The Brejk Soté was our standout dish, while the grilled sea bream with saffron risotto also delivered a well-balanced combination, and the flank steak was cooked just right. We also tried a regular Bernard 11 beer, the Bernard non-alcoholic plum beer, and a homemade mango-passion fruit lemonade. We remembered the plum beer most, while the lemonade was fresh and easy to drink. With the portions being as generous as they were, we left the table with no room for dessert, so that part of the menu will have to wait for another visit. If you are coming for a full meal, come hungry.

The service was where we noticed the most room for improvement. It took a while for the menus to arrive, and we waited 26 minutes for the food, although the waiter repeated our order back to us before sending it through, which we appreciated. When the main courses arrived, we were missing cutlery, even though it was already set on the other tables, and after finishing our meal, we waited again before someone noticed we were ready to pay. The final moment also felt a little rushed, as the table was being cleared while we were still putting on our jackets and preparing to leave. None of these issues ruined the meal, and the staff was clearly making an effort, but a little more attention to timing and the small details would make the overall experience more polished.
Our Verdict
★★☆
Brejk Bistro Prešov delivers a bistro experience built on generous portions, a broad menu, and familiar dishes with a few standout combinations. The Brejk Soté was our clear favorite, with the Gorgonzola sauce, roasted pear, and nuts working particularly well with the pork tenderloin. The grilled sea bream with saffron risotto also delivered on flavor and portion size. The flank steak was cooked just right, though the oil and rosemary could have been more restrained, and the weekly beef wrap worked well except for the fries, which tasted more like a standard frozen product than homemade. The Bernard Plum non-alcoholic beer and homemade mango-passion fruit lemonade were also worth mentioning. Come hungry, because the portions are generous, and if you order one dish from our visit, make it the Brejk Soté.
Would We Recommend It? ✅ Yes, especially for generous portions, a broad menu, and casual meals in Prešov
