We’ve been waiting for well over a decade for something to open at this spot by Kuchajda, and it finally happened! Even better, they opened an Italian restaurant, so of course, there was no way we weren’t going to check it out.

SiSi Restaurant focuses on Italian cuisine, with pizza playing a big role on the menu alongside pasta and other Italian classics. So, we waddled over, ordered a little bit of everything, and put Sisi to the Lifeguin test. Here’s what we tried, what we loved, what could be better, and whether we’d come back for another pizza.

We had waddled past this place more times than we could count, so we were extra excited to step inside finally. For years, we watched the building slowly deteriorate, and when the renovation finally started, we immediately felt that something good was coming.

As we approached Sisi, we could already hear Italian tunes playing in the background, and the whole atmosphere started working its magic. Stepping inside, the restaurant felt colorful and full of character without going overboard. Add the location directly on the molo above the water. For a second, it felt like we had waddled into some little corner of an Italian city rather than Bratislava.

We got a fantastic corner table on the terrace, with water surrounding us on both sides, and we couldn’t have asked for a better spot. The overall architecture and setup immediately add to the experience. The restaurant makes great use of its location above the water, with the terrace wrapping you in the surroundings and the colorful interior lending a subtle Italian feel without becoming kitschy or overdone. The music, the open views, the water, and the little details all work together to create an atmosphere that feels relaxed yet thoughtfully designed. From an atmosphere and setting perspective, Sisi makes a very strong first impression.

The service matched the setting. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and incredibly quick, but never made us feel rushed. There was an easy, personal approach to the service that made us feel welcome, almost like arriving at a busy Italian family restaurant where someone immediately takes care of you.

We didn’t want to experience Sisi alone, so we came with friends, and as always, great company makes a good restaurant experience even better. That said, even if it had been just the two of us, we think Sisi would have left the same impression.

From the moment we waddled in and were shown to our table, everything felt warm and welcoming. Both the interior and the outdoor terrace have a cozy feel, with plenty of subtle Italian touches throughout. There is a citrusy theme in the decor, warm lights hanging overhead and little details that bring Italy into the space without turning it into an Italian-themed amusement park. Even the servers’ uniforms fit beautifully with the concept: cute, polished and unmistakably Italian-inspired. Everything feels considered, but never overdone.

The location helps a lot, too. Sisi sits directly at Kuchajda, and this particular spot above the water is easily one of its biggest advantages. Sitting on the terrace with the lake right beside you makes it feel a little removed from the city, despite still being very much in Bratislava.

We recommend making a reservation. We visited on a Wednesday and were very glad we had booked ahead because the restaurant was packed. Looking around, we could see reservation signs on plenty of other tables as well. If a Wednesday evening is anything to go by, we wouldn’t risk waddling in on a busy weekend and hoping for the best.

The only small downside to our terrace spot was the wind. It got pretty breezy at times, and we almost watched the paper menu and a few tissues fly straight into Kuchajda. Luckily, there is also a QR code on the tables, so you can scan it and check the menu online instead, which we actually found really convenient. Service throughout the evening was another big plus. Our waiter was incredibly quick with everything we ordered, attentive without hovering around the table, and noticed the little things. We had put our bags on the ground, and without us even asking, he brought over a small foldable chair so we could keep them off the floor. It’s such a simple gesture, but exactly the kind of detail that makes the service stand out.

Being in an Italian restaurant, the menu revolves around the classics: pizza and pasta take center stage, supported by a smaller selection of antipasti and traditional Italian desserts. What we appreciated was that the menu felt focused. There is enough variety to make choosing interesting, but not so much that the restaurant loses its identity. The dishes stay firmly within Italian cuisine, and the selection feels considered rather than simply extensive for its own sake. We spent a while looking through the options and tried choosing different things to get a better feel for what Sisi does. Somehow, that plan ended with four different pizzas and one other dish arriving at our table, so we turned dinner into a little pizza party. Not exactly a hardship when you’re reviewing an Italian restaurant.

We ordered the Mortadella e Pistacchio without the mortadella, and it still ended up being our second-favorite pizza of the evening. The thin, freshly baked base was topped with pistachio cream, mozzarella, burrata, pistachios, Grana Padano, basil, and lemon oil. The creamy burrata in the center was definitely the highlight, and the size was just right for one person. The flavors were well balanced and nicely layered, creamy and nutty, with the lemon oil and basil adding just enough freshness. Even without the mortadella, nothing felt missing.

This was our favorite pizza of the evening and our pairing pick. The cream base comes with mozzarella, pear, gorgonzola, cashew nuts, arugula, and Grana Padano, and the balance was spot on. The pear’s sweetness softened the gorgonzola’s salty intensity, while the cheese brought a deep, savory umami character that kept every bite interesting. A simple combination on paper, but a very well-composed pizza on the plate.

The Diavola was our third-favorite pizza of the evening, and another one we really enjoyed. The tomato base, mozzarella, and Salame Spianata Piccante were well balanced, with the salami bringing a rich, savory character and a noticeable chili kick that built as you chewed. For our taste, it was a little too oily, most likely from the spicy salami, but the heat, the tomato’s acidity, and the richness of the toppings still came together nicely. Bold, punchy and satisfying, especially if you like your pizza with a bit of fire.

The Salame e Gorgonzola was a richer, more intense combination, bringing together a cream base, mozzarella, Salame Napoli, gorgonzola, arugula, cashew nuts, chili, Grana Padano and olive oil. The gorgonzola delivered a deep savory sharpness, while the salami added saltiness and richness, with the chili providing a gentle heat towards the finish. The arugula helped cut through the heavier flavors and the cashews added a welcome bit of texture. A bold, full-flavored pizza that works particularly well if you enjoy stronger cheeses and richer toppings.

The Baked Prawns sounded promising on paper: prawns baked in a creamy sauce with truffle, Grana Padano, arugula and focaccia. We expected a rich, aromatic dish with the truffle adding earthy depth, but unfortunately we couldn’t detect it at all. The prawns themselves were enjoyable, though the sauce leaned a little too salty for our taste and needed some acidity to cut through its richness. A squeeze of fresh lemon would have made a big difference, bringing brightness and giving the whole dish that extra kick it was missing.

We added the Truffle and Grana Padano Potatoes as a side, and the combination of crispy potatoes, cheese and truffle mayonnaise sounded like an easy win. Unfortunately, the potatoes themselves were fairly basic, with the texture and uniformity of a store-bought product finished in the fryer rather than something prepared in-house. The Grana Padano and truffle mayonnaise added flavor, but couldn’t quite elevate the base. For a restaurant with this level of presentation and attention to detail elsewhere, we expected a more distinctive, homemade-style side.

Two people at our table went for the Tiramisù Lava Cream, a classic coffee tiramisu finished with a lava-style layer of cream on top. It was creamy and soft, with a pleasant coffee flavor, but overall it didn’t leave a particularly memorable impression. The textures were smooth, and the coffee and cream were nicely balanced, but the dessert lacked the extra depth or contrast needed to stand out. Good and enjoyable, but not one that knocked our socks off.

The Basque Cheesecake with Tiramisu was an interesting idea, combining a creamy cheesecake with lemon tiramisu cream, but it ended up being our least-favorite dessert. The texture was much softer and creamier than the deeply baked, caramelized Basque cheesecake we had expected, so it didn’t quite deliver that characteristic contrast between a dark exterior and rich center. The lemon cream brought some freshness, but overall, the dessert lacked the depth and distinctive finish we were looking for. Pleasant enough to try once, but not something we would order again.

The Pistachio SiSifreddo was the highlight among the desserts. A good semifreddo should sit somewhere between ice cream and mousse, chilled and structured, yet soft enough to melt almost immediately on the tongue, and this one absolutely nailed the texture. It arrived at just the right temperature, beautifully creamy without feeling heavy, with the pistachio flavor coming through clearly and the seasonal fruit and forest berries adding freshness and acidity. Smooth, balanced, and very well executed, this is the dessert we would come back for.

For drinks, we went for the homemade mango and passion fruit lemonade, which was a refreshing choice alongside all that pizza. The mango brought a pleasant sweetness, while the passion fruit added just enough tartness to keep it from becoming overly sweet. Fresh, nicely balanced, and easy to drink, nothing particularly surprising, but a solid homemade lemonade that did exactly what it needed to do.

The bill also came with a little limoncello surprise, and the attention to detail was impressive. Four of us hadn’t been drinking alcohol throughout the evening, while only one person had, and the staff clearly noticed: they brought four alcohol-free limoncellos and just one alcoholic one without us having to ask. That was a thoughtful touch and another example of how attentive the service had been. Unfortunately, the non-alcoholic limoncello itself was much less successful. It smelled lemony, but the taste was far too sweet and much too warm, missing the cold, sharp, refreshing citrus finish we expected from a drink inspired by limoncello. A few of us didn’t even finish it; lovely gesture, but definitely not our favorite way to end the meal.

Shortly after we sat down, we were also brought complimentary bread with olive oil, which was a nice touch while we waited for our order. The bread itself was fresh and enjoyable, with a good texture and exactly the kind of simple start that works well in an Italian restaurant. Unfortunately, the accompanying olive oil was surprisingly bitter, which took away from an otherwise pleasant little welcome to the table.

Overall, the atmosphere continued to impress even when we stepped away from the terrace and walked through the interior. The open-concept kitchen lets you see the pizza oven and part of the action, while the bar and the rest of the interior carry the same polished but relaxed Italian feel. Even the walk to the bathrooms made us notice how thoughtfully the whole space had been put together. We kept the drinks fairly simple; water, a couple of beers at the table, and our fruity lemonade because, in the end, the real star of the evening was clearly the pizza.

And this is where Sisi really hit the mark. A well-made pizza dough should have enough fermentation and heat to produce a crust that is light and airy inside, properly baked underneath, and gently crisp on the outside, without becoming dry or heavy. That’s exactly what we found here. The pizzas had a fluffy, well-developed crust with a nicely baked base, yet remained thin and easy to eat through the center. Combined with toppings that, for the most part, felt balanced rather than overloaded, the pizzas were easily the strongest part of our meal. Among the desserts, the Pistachio SiSifreddo was the clear highlight, with its precise semifreddo texture and well-balanced pistachio flavor. There were a few dishes we would tweak or skip next time, but overall, our experience at Sisi was very positive, and the pizza alone gives us a very good reason to come back.

★★☆

Sisi combines well-made Italian pizza, a stylish lakeside setting, and warm, attentive service. While a few of the sides and desserts didn’t quite hit the same level, the pizza was easily the star of the evening, with light, airy dough, balanced toppings, and some genuinely memorable combinations. Overall, Sisi is an easy restaurant to recommend for anyone craving good Italian food in Bratislava.

Would We Recommend It? ✅ Yes

Best For: Couples • Friends • Pizza Lovers • Date Nights • Visitors to Bratislava

Less Suitable For: Budget Travelers • Quick Meals • Anyone Looking for a Quiet, Empty Restaurant

For the quality of the food, the setting and the service, we found the prices at Sisi very reasonable. For five people, our final bill came to around €132, including food and drinks, which felt more than fair considering how much we ordered and the overall quality of the experience. With pizzas around the €15 mark, generous desserts and attentive service in such a great location by Kuchajda, Sisi definitely hits the mark when it comes to value for money. We left feeling that we had received good quality for what we paid, and we’d happily spend our money here again.

  • Best Time to Visit: Early evening is especially nice if you want to enjoy the atmosphere by Kuchajda and sit on the terrace. For something quieter, lunch is likely your better bet.
  • Reservations: Definitely recommended for dinner and weekends. We visited on a Wednesday and the restaurant was already packed, with plenty of tables reserved.
  • Getting There: Sisi is located directly at Kuchajda in Bratislava’s Nové Mesto district, close to POLUS shopping center and Bratislava-Nové Mesto railway station.
  • Parking: If you’re arriving by car, there are parking options in the wider Kuchajda and POLUS area, but allow a little extra time to find a space when it’s busy.
  • Public Transport: The closest stop is Kuchajda, served by tram 4 and bus 51; the N53 night bus also stops here. Tram 4 is especially convenient from the city center, running via stops such as Trnavské mýto and continuing directly to Kuchajda. From the stop, Sisi is just a short walk away.
  • Payment Methods: Card payment is available.
  • Dress Code: Casual to smart casual. Sisi looks polished, but the atmosphere is relaxed, so there’s no need to dress up unless you want to.
  • Terrace Tip: The terrace over the water is one of the best parts of the restaurant, but it can get windy. Keep an eye on paper menus, napkins, and anything else that might decide to take a swim in Kuchajda.
