As we waddled around the area above Dubrovnik, we came across the stone walls of the fortress while slowly making our way back down. Before leaving, we wanted to place one final penguin stone up here, and this time it was our golden penguin stone, part of our plan to hide at least one golden one in every country. We found the perfect spot in a sturdy stone wall, tucked it in carefully, and left it ready for the next explorer to discover. The walls here are part of the defensive system around Fort Lovrijenac and the wider Dubrovnik fortifications, much of which was developed between the 11th and 17th centuries to protect the Republic of Ragusa from naval invasions, making this one of the strongest coastal defense networks in the Adriatic.
