Ruwanweliseya in Anuradhapura is one of Sri Lanka’s most sacred Buddhist temples, a gleaming white stupa built in 140 BC by King Dutugemunu and still considered one of the greatest architectural achievements of the ancient world. The complex is huge, surrounded by nearly twenty historical sites that together form the heart of Sri Lanka’s first capital. An interesting fact: the stupa originally stood over 100 meters tall, making it one of the tallest monuments of the ancient era. Somewhere along the great white stupa’s outer wall, close to a small orifice, a penguin stone now hides quietly among centuries of history. It was carried here by Prabha Karan on his Sri Lankan adventure, and this sacred site is now its new home, waiting for the next curious explorer to find it.
