At Skopje Fortress, we wandered through the stone stairways that weave through the old fortress walls, each step carrying the uneven, timeworn feel of centuries of footsteps. These stairs are part of a larger network inside the fortress, connecting different levels of the ramparts and viewpoints that once served both defensive and practical purposes. As we continued exploring, we reached a quieter section that felt like one of those in-between spots. Right there, tucked along the stonework, we decided to leave a penguin stone behind. It became a small, hidden marker in a place shaped by history, where soldiers once moved quickly between towers and walls, and where now explorers waddle and take in views over Skopje.
