When we started looking for where to stay in Ramsau am Dachstein, we quickly noticed one thing: this region is full of cozy, family-run guesthouses instead of large hotels. It didn’t take us long to decide on Glöshof Bauernhof – Pension, and it turned out to be exactly the kind of place we were looking for. As the name suggests, it’s not just a guesthouse but also a traditional Bauernhof (farm), something you’ll see all across Ramsau. During our stay, we got to experience the warm hospitality, peaceful surroundings, and authentic atmosphere that make this region so special.

Gloshof Bauernhof Pension review Ramsau am Dachstein

After deciding to spend a few days exploring Ramsau am Dachstein, the next step was choosing where to stay. We wanted somewhere peaceful, comfortable, and close to the region’s main attractions without feeling too touristy. As we searched, we kept coming across small, family-run guesthouses and traditional Bauernhöfe, and that local atmosphere was exactly what appealed to us. In the end, we booked Glöshof Bauernhof for two nights. In this review, we’re sharing our experience staying here, including the room, breakfast, location, and overall atmosphere, along with what we enjoyed most and a few details to know before you book.

Glöshof Bauernhof has been welcoming guests for years and is still run by the Schrempf family, who combine a traditional working farm with a cozy guesthouse. The farm has stayed true to its roots, with fresh products from its own agriculture still playing an important role, especially at breakfast and dinner. Staying here feels less like checking into a hotel, and more like being welcomed into a family home, which is exactly what makes places like this so special in Ramsau am Dachstein.

📍 Address:  Schildlehen 11, 8972 Ramsau am Dachstein, Österreich

Glöshof Bauernhof is in the Schildlehen area of Ramsau am Dachstein, right at the foot of the Dachstein massif. It’s in a peaceful setting surrounded by meadows and mountains, yet only a short drive from many of the region’s top attractions, including the Dachstein cable car, Rittisberg, Silberkarklamm, and countless hiking trails.

Getting to Glöshof is easy whether you’re traveling by car or public transport. If you’re using public transport, take a train to Schladming, then continue by regional bus to the Schildlehen stop, which is just a minute’s walk from the guesthouse.

We visited by car, which gave us the flexibility to explore different parts of the Dachstein region at our own pace. From Vienna, the drive takes around 3 hours and 30 minutes and covers approximately 300 km, mostly via the A2 and A9 motorways. There is free on-site parking, so once you arrive, you can leave the car and head straight out to explore.

There are a handful of on-site parking spaces right next to Glöshof Bauernhof. During our stay, we found a spot without any issues, although we imagine it could get a little tight if the guesthouse is fully booked. From the parking area, it’s just a few steps to the small wooden reception area.

  • Shopping Opportunities. Don’t expect shopping malls or busy shopping streets around. Instead, you’ll find small local businesses that fit the relaxed atmosphere of Ramsau am Dachstein. Just a few minutes away are a couple of sports shops where you can pick up hiking gear or forgotten essentials, as well as small supermarkets in Ramsau Ort for groceries and snacks. If you need a wider selection of shops, cafés, or supermarkets, Schladming is only about a 15-minute drive away.
  • Nearby Attractions.  One of the biggest advantages of staying at Glöshof is its location. Rittisberg Adventure Mountain is only a 5-minute waddle away and is packed with activities, including the mountain coaster, a forest high ropes course, hiking trails, and family attractions. The Ramsau Beach swimming lake is also around 5 minutes away, making it perfect for cooling off on a warm summer day. If you’re planning to visit the famous Dachstein Glacier, the cable car is only 6 km from the guesthouse, so you can easily be among the first visitors in the morning.
  • Dining Options. While Glöshof offers breakfast and optional half board, there are several great restaurants nearby if you want to eat out. We can recommend Waldcafé Liftstüberl, just a few minutes away, for traditional Austrian dishes, homemade cakes, and ice cream. If you’re spending the day around Rittisberg, Ramsau Beach Restaurant is a good option for pizza, coffee, and a relaxed lakeside atmosphere. For a classic alpine hut experience, Halseralm serves hearty Austrian meals, while Alpengasthof Peter Rosegger is another popular choice known for its regional cuisine and mountain views.

As soon as we arrived, we stepped into the small wooden reception area, which also serves as the lobby. The landlady greeted us almost immediately, already knew who we were thanks to our online booking, and handed us our room key. Check-in took only a few minutes, and she was happy to answer all our questions before pointing us in the right direction. The whole experience felt warm and personal, more like being welcomed into a family home than checking into a hotel.

Check-in is available from 2:00 PM to 7:30 PM, while check-out is between 6:00 AM and 10:00 AM. The guesthouse doesn’t have a large reception desk that’s staffed around the clock. Instead, the reception is part of the small entrance lobby, and because it’s a family-run property.

Despite its small size, the lobby and common area feel surprisingly welcoming. Everything is simple, well organized, and thoughtfully arranged, so you immediately feel comfortable rather than overwhelmed. Within a few minutes of arriving, we already felt at home, and that cozy, family atmosphere stayed with us throughout our stay.

Glöshof Bauernhof is a rather small guesthouse, which is part of what gives it such a personal atmosphere. The property offers nine double rooms and one multi-bed family room, making it a great choice for couples, families, or small groups. All rooms have been recently renovated in a traditional alpine style with solid wood furniture and natural wooden floors. Each room includes a private bathroom, satellite TV, a hairdryer, and some also feature a balcony with mountain views.

We stayed in a room on the second floor. Room number 8. Under normal circumstances, we probably wouldn’t have thought twice about it, but since one of us had an injured leg, climbing the stairs several times a day wasn’t ideal. It’s worth knowing that there isn’t an elevator, so if stairs are a concern, we’d recommend asking for a room on a lower floor when booking. The room itself was spacious and filled with natural light thanks to the large windows. It had a comfortable double bed, a writing desk with a chair, and a cozy seating area with two additional chairs, a small table, and a couch in the corner. On the opposite side, there was a large wardrobe with plenty of space for all of our clothes and luggage, so even after unpacking, the room still felt tidy and uncluttered.

Bathroom

The bathroom was part of the room and had everything we needed for our stay. We found both a large bath towel and a small hand towel for each of us, as well as a shower, a toilet, a sink, and a hairdryer. One thing to keep in mind is that shampoo and shower gel aren’t provided, so it’s worth bringing your own.
The design definitely caught our attention. While the bedroom had a warm alpine feel with plenty of wood, the bathroom went in a completely different direction. With its curved lines and glossy finishes, it almost felt like stepping into a little spaceship. 😄 It was modern, clean, and a fun contrast to the rest of the room.

Breakfast

Breakfast was one of our favorite parts of the stay, as always and is included in every stay. It is served every morning in the cozy dining room on the ground floor, and you can immediately tell that everything is prepared with care. Instead of setting bread on the buffet, each table is already laid with a basket of fresh bread waiting for you. The rest is arranged buffet-style, so you can help yourself to cold cuts, cheeses, homemade jams, yogurt, cereals, fruit, eggs, drinks, and whatever else you fancy. Many of the products come directly from the family’s own farm, which makes the breakfast feel even more authentic.
It isn’t the biggest breakfast buffet we’ve ever seen, but we honestly didn’t miss much. Maybe a sweet pastry would be great to have with the coffee. The host asked us whether we wanted tea or coffee and brought a pot. There was more than enough variety to put together a filling breakfast before heading out for a day of hiking and exploring. Everything tasted fresh, homemade, and exactly what you’d hope for from a traditional Austrian farm stay.

Dinner

If you don’t feel like heading out after a full day of exploring, Glöshof Bauernhof also offers half-board. We didn’t get the chance to try the dinner ourselves, but each evening the hosts prepare a three-course meal with soup, salad, a main course, and dessert. The menu changes daily and focuses on traditional Austrian home cooking made with fresh regional ingredients, including beef from the family’s own farm. It sounds like a great option if you’re looking for a hearty homemade meal without leaving the guesthouse.

Lobby & Interior

From the moment you step inside, it’s clear that it is first and foremost a family home. Rather than feeling like a typical hotel, the interior has a warm, lived-in atmosphere with plenty of wooden details, family decorations, flowers, and little touches that make it feel cozy. The hallways are filled with photos, ornaments, and traditional alpine décor, giving the whole guesthouse a welcoming character. It never felt overly polished or staged instead, it felt genuine, which suited the overall atmosphere perfectly.

The Farm

As the name suggests, Glöshof is also a working Bauernhof (farm), and that’s part of what makes staying here a little different. Around the property you’ll find several farm animals, including deer, rabbits, goats, chickens, ducks, and even a black rooster that we somehow never managed to spot despite keeping an eye out for him. Right next to the guesthouse is a large garden with plenty of green space where you can sit, relax, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. It adds another layer to the experience and makes the whole property feel even more connected to nature.

  • Free Wi-Fi throughout the guesthouse.
  • Free on-site parking for guests.
  • Finnish sauna and infrared cabin, perfect for relaxing after a day of hiking or skiing.
  • Garden with a Kneipp water basin and barefoot path during the summer months.
  • Traditional Bauernstube (farm lounge) where guests can enjoy a drink, play board games, or unwind in the evening.
  • Schladming-Dachstein Summer Card included with eligible summer stays.
  • No toll fee for the Dachstein Road for guests staying at the property.
  • Direct access to cross-country skiing trails in winter, with a ski storage room and boot drying room available for guests.
  • Bar serving drinks for guests.
  • Non-smoking property with allergy-friendly rooms featuring natural wooden floors.
  • Group stays and celebrations can be arranged on request.

For our stay at Glöshof Bauernhof from 25 June to 27 June 2026, we paid €274 for two people, including breakfast and free on-site parking. Considering the spacious room, homemade breakfast, peaceful location, and the warm, family-run atmosphere, we felt the price offered very good value for money.

Accommodation in Ramsau am Dachstein can become quite expensive during the summer months, especially if you’re looking for a place close to the region’s main attractions. While Glöshof isn’t the cheapest option available, we felt it struck a great balance between price, comfort, and authenticity. If you’re looking for a cozy alpine guesthouse rather than a large hotel, we’d happily pay this price again.

Between the spacious room, homemade breakfast, and peaceful location, we always looked forward to returning after a day of exploring.
While there are a few minor drawbacks, such as the lack of an elevator and the absence of toiletries in the bathroom, neither had a major impact on our stay. For us, the friendly hospitality and authentic farm setting more than made up for these small details.
