Our stay at Wellton Centrum Hotel & SPA was made possible through a partnership, but the words are 100% our own – sponsored stay, unsponsored honest penguin opinions always.

We considered several hotels when deciding where to stay in Riga and received a few collaboration offers, but we opted for Wellton Centrum Hotel & SPA. Our stay was also a collaboration, but as always, our review is 100% honest and based on our real experience. If you’re looking for a stay that combines Old Town charm, modern comfort, and a touch of spa luxury, this four-star hotel is an easy pick. It’s right in the heart of Riga’s Old Town, Wellton Centrum blends history and style. From the moment we waddled in, we loved the warm, cozy designrelaxing wellness area, and friendly staff who made everything feel smooth and welcoming. Whether you’re in Riga for sightseeing, a weekend escape, or a little spa break, this hotel offers a calm retreat right where all the action happens.

The Wellton Centrum Hotel & SPA sits in a beautifully restored historic building right in the heart of Riga’s Old Town. The structure itself blends 19th-century architecture with modern design, preserving the charm of the original façade while giving the interiors a fresh, contemporary feel. The hotel opened in 2013 after an extensive renovation that transformed the property into the elegant four-star retreat it is today. It’s part of the Wellton Hotels group, which runs several properties around Riga, so make sure not to confuse it with Wellton Riverside or Wellton Riga Hotel & SPA,both of which are nearby but separate locations. The Centrum branch stands out for its intimate atmosphere, central location, and that seamless mix of old-town heritage with modern comfort.

📍Address: 33 Kalēju iela, Riga, LV-1050, Latvia

We flew into Riga International Airport (RIX) fairly late in the evening, and our taxi ride to Wellton Centrum Hotel & SPA was quick, just about 12 minutes for the approximately 10 km drive. Once we pulled up, we realized how great the location of the hotel is, in the heart of old Riga’s cobbled streets, surrounded by charming buildings and just a short waddle from the main squares. Being right in the historic center meant that the best cafés, shops, and sights were effectively on our doorstep, with no long commutes and no getting lost. For accessibility, the hotel is super convenient: if you have heavy luggage, mobility issues or just want to arrive and decompress, heading straight in from the taxi was a relief.

The hotel has an elevator, which makes getting to your room super easy, especially if you’re arriving with luggage or after a long flight. There are also stairs connecting all floors for those who prefer to waddle, but having the lift definitely adds to the comfort and accessibility, particularly since the building keeps its charming old-town character while still feeling modern and convenient.

  • Shopping Opportunities. Just steps from souvenir shops, and local design stores. Waddle down Kalku iela or Vaļņu iela, and you’ll discover everything from handmade crafts to cozy bookstores and Baltic amber jewelry. If you’re in the mood for a little retail break, Galerija Centrs, a modern shopping mall with international brands, cafés, and rooftop views, is only a 5-minute waddle from the hotel, perfect for a rainy afternoon or a quick coffee stop.
  • Cultural Sites. Staying here means you’re right in the middle of Riga’s UNESCO-listed Old Town, so history literally greets you at every corner. The House of the Blackheads, St. Peter’s Church, and Riga Cathedral are all just a short waddle away, making sightseeing effortless. If you love architecture, the Art Nouveau district is about a 15-minute waddle. Everything feels close and walkable, which makes exploring Riga a total breeze.
  • Dining Options. When it comes to food, you don’t need to go far, the hotel’s restaurant serves up a hearty breakfast and comforting meals throughout the day and dinner. For local flavors, Milda is just around the corner, offering traditional Latvian dishes with a modern twist. If you’re in the mood for something international, Steiku Haoss (a classic steakhouse) are nearby favorites. For a relaxed coffee or sweet treat, pop into Miit Coffee or Rocket Bean Roastery, both local gems loved by locals and travelers alike. And of course, nothing beats an evening cocktail in one of the Old Town’s atmospheric bars, just a few minutes’ stroll from your room.

Arriving a little later in the evening, we were impressed by how smooth everything was. Despite our late arrival, the reception team greeted us with big smiles, whisked us through the process in just minutes, and explained everything from the spa opening times to the breakfast buffet and room amenities. It felt like they were letting us in on the hotel’s insider secrets. That warm, relaxed welcome instantly set the tone for our stay and made the city-buzz of Old Town feel like a calm home base.

The hotel’s reception desk is open 24/7, so whether you arrive in the middle of the night or grab a late-night snack, you’ll always find someone there to help. Check-in officially begins at 15:00, and check-out is by 12:00, but if you need an early check-in or a late departure, ask the front desk and they’ll see what they can do.

The lobby is bright, spacious, and surprisingly cozy for a city hotel. There are plenty of comfortable seating areas where you can relax with a coffee, scroll through your travel photos, or wait for your taxi or friends to arrive. The atmosphere feels calm and welcoming, a nice little pause before heading out to explore Riga or winding down after a day in the Old Town.

You’ll find a comfortable, modern stay right in the historic heart of Riga. The hotel offers 144 guest rooms designed in a “classically modern” style. While it’s not a massive resort, it has enough space to feel relaxed: the building has a few floors and all the typical amenities you’d expect from a four-star spa hotel. You can anticipate well-equipped rooms, free WiFi, minibars, coffee/tea facilities, and access to the in-house spa area (for many room types), so whether you’re here for one night or a longer break, the essentials are covered.

We stayed in one of the larger rooms, a twin/double bed setup, and honestly, it had everything we needed. The mattress was spot-on: not too hard, not too soft, and we slept really well. Our bathroom came with the extra treat of bathrobes, slippers, shampoo, shower gel, and everything you need for a comfortable stay. Especially the slipper and bathrobes made the transition from room to spa seamless. It’s the kind of detail that makes a stay feel more special than just “somewhere to sleep.” The room felt well-thought-out, with good lighting, comfortable bedding, and all the small extras that mean you arrive and unwind without worrying about the basics.

Breakfast kicked off our mornings just right. On weekdays, the breakfast buffet is served from 7:00 am to 10:30 am, and on weekends and national holidays from 7:30 am to 11:00 am. It’s held in the breakfast hall on the 1st floor of the hotel, with a wide spread of options, everything from fresh fruit and yogurt to hot items and local specialties. Because we always have high expectations for breakfast, we spent a bit of time exploring what was on offer each day. We were very pleased; there was plenty to choose from, whether you fancy savory or sweet. It felt like they really thought of everyone, and we left each morning full and happy, exactly how a good hotel breakfast should make you feel.

As part of our collaboration with Wellton Centrum Hotel & SPA, we also got the chance to dine at their on-site restaurant, Melnā Bite and wow, it was a highlight of our Riga stay. Even though it’s located right inside the hotel, it’s also open to everyone, so you can easily waddle in from the street. We’d definitely recommend booking a table in advance, especially if you want to grab a window seat like we did. Watching people stroll through Riga’s cobbled Old Town streets while sipping on a drink set the perfect evening mood.

The menu blends Latvian and European flavors with a creative twist, and you can tell the kitchen team knows what they’re doing. From fresh local fish to modern vegetarian dishes and house-made desserts with seasonal berries, everything felt thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. The drink list was another win; we tried a cocktail and a local wine, both excellent choices.

And because we’re all about honest reviews, the only tiny thing we missed was a little extra butter with the bread basket before our first course (but that’s just the butter lovers in us talking). Small detail aside, Melnā Bite is the kind of restaurant that makes you feel welcomed, relaxed, and a little spoiled.

Opening Hours: Mon–Thu 14:00–23:00 | Fri–Sat 14:00–00:00 | Sun 14:00–23:00

We absolutely had to try the spa, after all, what’s a city break without some “me time”? The facilities are impressive: an 8.5 m long indoor swimming pool with water jets, a jacuzzi, plus a Finnish sauna and a Turkish steam bath to help you unwind. The opening hours for the Spa Zone/pool are typically 10:00–21:00 Monday to Thursday, and 09:00–21:00 Friday to Sunday. You can waddle in without an extra reservation for the pool & sauna, but for treatments (massages, facials, wraps) you’ll definitely want to book ahead; those tend to fill up. While the experience itself was really good, one small hiccup for us: the hotel-issued slippers weren’t quite sufficient around the wet pool/jacuzzi area, so we ended up buying proper spa slippers at reception (~€4 each) to stop slipping around. Also, there are separate changing rooms (men’s & women’s) where you can stash your stuff, and we loved lounging around the pool area in between sessions of sauna and soaking. Overall, if you’re after a good mix of city break + spa downtime, this place hits the mark.

We stayed at Wellton Centrum Hotel & SPA from 21 to 24 March 2024, and while our visit was part of a collaboration with the hotel, we covered €68 of the accommodation cost ourselves. The rest, including the room, spa access, and dinner, was kindly provided as part of the partnership. That said, even without the collaboration, we genuinely think the hotel offers great value for money. For a four-star property right in the heart of Riga’s Old Town, with modern rooms, a full spa, and an on-site restaurant, the prices are surprisingly reasonable. You get both comfort and convenience without feeling like you’ve overpaid, a solid choice whether you’re visiting Riga for a weekend escape or a more extended stay. One thing we did notice during our stay was that there’s no gym or fitness room at the hotel, which might be worth keeping in mind if you like to keep up your workout routine while traveling. Our room faced the charming cobblestone streets of Old Town, which gave us a lovely view during the day, but at night, especially with the window slightly open, it could get a bit lively. Riga knows how to party, and you can definitely hear the weekend energy outside. It wasn’t a dealbreaker for us, but light sleepers might prefer a room facing the inner courtyard for a quieter night.
