Range Christiano offers fresh fruit tasting, home-cooked meals, and hands-on experiences with coffee and cocoa processing and more
We were really interested in going a little deeper into the country and exploring the local mountain area as well. And we were lucky because we got the best authentic experience – visiting one of the local ranches. In the heart of the Dominican Republic’s lush countryside, you can find Range Christiano, which offers an unforgettable, authentic experience of local traditions, savor home-cooked meals, and learn about the country’s rich agricultural heritage. Read on to learn more about what to expect.

How to get to Ranche Christiano
The ranch is in the countryside of the Dominican Republic, accessible from major tourist hubs like Punta Cana and Santo Domingo. You will find the ranch close to Monkeyland and Zip-Line Adventure, and many tours offer the ranch as part of the adventure. Tours mostly visit it, but if you contact the ranch, you can also visit alone; ensure they know about you in advance.
We came here as part of the tour, which we highly recommend. The tour was offered by the resort we were staying in, so ask your hotel or resort you are staying in about the possibility.
A Warm Welcome & Unmatched Hospitality
From the moment you step onto the property, you’ll be greeted with warmth and kindness that defines Dominican hospitality. Christian, the owner and host, arrived on a horse, which we didn’t see coming, ensuring everyone felt at home. Christian is his own character, and his jokes might not be for everyone, so be aware. But he is full of energy and happy to answer any question and share his beautiful property while you are here. It is also astonishing how he speaks Italian, French, Spanish (of course), and a little English.

Home Made Tasty Lunch
Before we took it upon ourselves to explore the property and learn more about the production of coffee or cocoa, we were given a homemade Dominican lunch prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients; the meal typically includes traditional dishes such as arroz con habichuelas (rice and beans), slow-cooked meats, crispy tostones (fried plantains), and refreshing salads. Every dish was infused with authentic Dominican flavors, giving you a taste of the local cuisine. Served in a relaxed, family-style setting, the lunch satisfies your taste buds and provides a warm and welcoming dining experience that makes you feel right at home.

Fresh Fruit Tasting & Homemade Dominican Lunch
After our fair share of the most delicious food, we had a chance to indulge in the freshest tropical fruits from the farm. Imagine biting into a juicy mango or a sweet pineapple bursting with flavor. All fruits were fresh, meaning they were just picked for us to have a piece. We had the sweetest pineapple and learned that the darker the yellow, the sweeter it is. We had a passion fruit, or for example, we sucked on the cocoa bean, which is rich in magnesium. But be aware they are only sweet when you suck them; once you bite them, they are very bitter. It was an interesting experience to see a life where you get all you need from the garden.

Coffee & Cocoa Processing the Old-Fashioned Way
If you have ever wondered how coffee and cocoa beans were processed before modern machinery, at Range Christiano, you’ll witness firsthand how they were prepared in the old days. From hand-roasting coffee beans over an open fire to grinding cocoa into rich, pure cocoa powder, we managed to experience it all.

The coffee-making process begins with handpicking ripe, red coffee cherries straight from the farm’s trees. These cherries are then carefully sun-dried before being roasted over an open fire, a traditional method that enhances their rich aroma and deep flavor. You can grind the roasted beans manually using a rustic hand-crank grinder, just as it has been done for generations. And it is harder than it looks like.

Similarly, the cocoa process starts with the opening of cacao pods to reveal the raw beans, which are fermented and dried under the sun. Once ready, the beans are roasted to release their natural chocolatey aroma, then ground into a fine paste using traditional stone grinders. This paste can be mixed with sugar and milk to create a rich, velvety hot chocolate.
Both experiences offered a deeper appreciation for the hard work and dedication that goes into producing these every day delights. We also had an opportunity to taste freshly made coffee and hot cocoa, both super bitter unless you added some sugar to sweeten it.

Horseback Riding Through Breathtaking Scenery
Christiano also nicely offers the possibility of horseback riding to immerse yourself in the Dominican culture. You can ride through scenic trails and soak in the stunning views. The peaceful surroundings, fresh air, and gentle horses make this an ideal activity for beginners and experienced riders.
We didn’t try it, but we enjoyed stroking all the other animals we encountered on the farm, and our favorite, the little goat, followed us everywhere.

Range Christiano feels like stepping into a fairytale. The raw beauty of the Dominican jungle surrounds you. The ranch is adorned with lush greenery, exotic tropical flowers, and towering palm trees, creating a picture-perfect setting that feels like paradise. Vibrant hibiscus, orchids, and bougainvillea bloom in every corner filling the air with their sweet fragrance. The sounds of chirping birds and the rustling of leaves in the breeze make this a peaceful sanctuary where visitors can connect with nature. Whether exploring the grounds on foot or taking in the scenery from the comfort of a shaded patio, the ranch’s beauty provides a serene and unforgettable backdrop to your experience.
