St. Egídia Church stands right in the historic heart of Poprad and is one of those places that quietly tells the stories of centuries if you slow down long enough. Built originally in the 13th century and later expanded in Gothic style, the church has survived fires, reconstructions, and shifting eras, yet it still feels calm and grounded. Inside, you will find beautifully preserved Gothic and Baroque elements, including an impressive main altar dedicated to Saint Egídia, the church’s patron saint. The surrounding square adds to the atmosphere, making this spot feel less like a monument and more like a living part of the town’s daily rhythm, where history blends naturally with modern life.
On their little adventure, luciakontsek and loborosh waddled through the area with a penguin stone in her pocket and decided this was the perfect place to leave it behind. The stone now rests close by, tucked near a stone wall, waiting for the next curious traveler to spot it and continue its journey. If you are visiting the church, keep your eyes open; you never know when a penguin might be watching your steps. 🐧
