Piburger See is one of those places that feels almost too calm to be real. Tucked just above the village of Oetz, this small alpine lake is protected as a natural monument, which helps preserve its incredibly clear, emerald-green water. It’s also one of the warmest swimming lakes in Tyrol, reaching surprisingly pleasant temperatures in summer despite sitting at over 900 meters above sea level. Surrounded by dense forest and steep mountain slopes, the lake has a quiet, almost storybook atmosphere, especially in the early morning when the surface is perfectly still. While taking a relaxing walk around it, Maria (my hoomans mom) hid a penguin stone here, adding to the charm. Look for a rock formation and note that the stone is hidden underneath moss.
