Alleys, doors, and more you can find in Tallinn

One of the fascinating aspects of Tallinn are its alleys and colorful doors, which you can find throughout the city. In this blog post, we will take a closer look at these unique features of Tallinn and what makes them so special.

Tallinn has over 1600 streets, and the alleys around Old Town are the most epic. And which ones are the three prettiest streets? We’ll let you decide because for us it’s all of them.

Catherine’s Alley is formerly known as Monk’s Alley. It’s our favorite alley. It is past the southern end of the Dominican monastery to Müürivahe Street. St Catherine’s church, which lent the alley its name, was built over 700 years ago. On the southern side of the alley are 15th-17th century buildings. The alley retains its medieval charm. 

Another interesting street that leads nowhere is the Master’s courtyard. It departs from Vene Street in the Old Town. Although it is a dead end, you can find a lot there. You can enjoy cakes and coffee or chat with local artists.

The most beautiful alleys you can find all around the Old Town. Walking down one of these alleys is like stepping back in time, as many have retained their medieval architecture and cobblestone paving. Some alleys even have unique names, such as “Long Leg Lane” and “Short Leg Lane,” which add to the area’s charm. Exploring the alleys of Tallinn is a must-do for anyone visiting the city. We waddled around a lot, and each alley was more beautiful than the other.

The Colorful Doors of Tallinn

Walking through the city, you will see doors in shades of blue, green, red, and yellow. Some doors even have unique features, such as door knockers in the shape of animals or faces. One such interesting door is, for example, at Lai 20. A red-green door belongs to the Old Town Hostel. Or the beautiful blue door, the entrance to the CRU Hotel.
