The Kotor Town Walls wrap around the old city like a protective belt, connecting the fortress high above with the shoreline below and forming one of the best preserved medieval fortification systems in the Adriatic. Built and expanded over many centuries, these walls were designed to defend the city from Venetian, Ottoman, and other regional threats, and today they still trace the steep mountainside in a dramatic line of stone. Waddling along sections of the walls gives you constant views over the red rooftops of Kotor and the shimmering bay beyond, making it easy to understand why this entire system is now part of a UNESCO World Heritage site. And as we waddled, we also found a spot to hide a penguin tone.
