If you’re planning a trip to the Austrian Alps and want a place to stay that blends mountain charm with modern comfort, without the premium price tag of a resort, Wasserfall Lodge C1 might be just what you’re looking for. Nestled in the peaceful village of Tauplitz and only a short stroll from the ski lift, this sleek alpine apartment offers a cozy retreat with all the amenities you need for a relaxing getaway. From the private sauna and fireplace to the equipped kitchen and panoramic mountain views, it’s a smart choice whether you’re chasing powder in winter or exploring hiking trails in summer. Ideal for couples, families, or small groups, Wasserfall Lodge C1 combines the privacy of a vacation rental with the thoughtful touches of a boutique stay.

Across the Alpine region, a growing number of vacation apartments are offering travelers an alternative to traditional hotels, places that feel more like home while still delivering comfort and style. We were eager to try one of these newer properties, and Wasserfall Lodge C1, part of the Tauplitz Lodges, stood out immediately. Built in recent years by AA Holiday Homes GmbH, an Austrian family-owned company with a touch of Dutch flair, this apartment reflects the team’s passion for both interior design and heartfelt hospitality. Founded in 2014 by Mag. Alexandra Albers, AA Holiday Homes has since expanded to include several resorts across the Schladming-Dachstein and Ausseerland regions, all marked by a personal, high-standard approach. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this wasn’t just another rental; it was a space shaped by people who genuinely love their region and want guests to experience the best of it.

📍 Adress: Tauplitzstrasse 353, 8982 Tauplitz, Austria

Wasserfall Lodge C1 is in the charming village of Tauplitz, a popular Alpine destination beloved for its relaxed ski slopes and family-friendly atmosphere. We found the location impressively accessible, whether by car or public transport. For drivers, there’s free underground garage parking right at the lodge, making unloading gear and luggage a breeze. If you prefer to go car-free, Tauplitz is also well-served by a regional bus that stops just a few minutes’ walk away, running at least once an hour throughout the day. It’s a great way to arrive, hassle-free, and gives you the freedom to enjoy the slopes, village cafés, and scenic trails without worrying about driving. In short, whether you’re planning to shave minutes off your ski day or soak up the village vibe, the ease of getting here and getting around makes every part of your stay feel effortless.

One of the perks of staying at Wasserfall Lodge C1 is that it comes with a designated underground garage parking spot, which is a real advantage, especially in winter when you don’t want to scrape snow off your car every morning. However, we arrived as a group with two cars. Unfortunately, only one parking spot was available to us, despite the apartment being spacious enough to accommodate two families or groups.

What made it a bit frustrating was that the garage was nearly empty during our entire stay. It felt odd to have to park the second car outside on the street, especially considering the lodge’s layout clearly supports multiple guests. It’s not a major deal, just a mild inconvenience, but it’s something to be aware of if you’re planning to come with more than one vehicle. A small minus point in an otherwise well-thought-out experience.

    • Shops & Essentials. Local grocery store just a few minutes’ waddle from the lodge is SPAR, perfect for stocking up on snacks, wine, or ingredients for a home-cooked meal. A bakery and small convenience shop are also nearby, offering fresh bread, regional specialties, and essentials. While Tauplitz doesn’t have a major mall, you’ll find everything you need for a short or extended stay right in the village.
    • Dining Options. Enjoy traditional Austrian meals at Berggasthof Hollhaus or grab pizza and local dishes at Die Tauplitzerin. For a cozy dinner, Schneider’s offers regional fare with a mountain view. Many restaurants are just a short stroll from the lodge, no car needed after a glass of local wine or schnapps!
    • Outdoor Activities & Hiking. Tauplitz is renowned for its stunning natural surroundings, and numerous hiking trails begin directly from the village. In winter, you’re in the heart of a popular ski resort with lifts steps away. In summer, explore alpine lakes, waterfalls, and panoramic viewpoints, all reachable on foot from your door.

Check-in at Wasserfall Lodge C1 is fully self-service; there’s no traditional reception desk, which worked in our favor. Right in front of the building, there are secure lockers/safes where you can collect your keys using a personal code provided by the owners before arrival. It’s straightforward, contactless, and available 24/7, which is ideal if you’re arriving late or want to settle in at your own pace.

We did run into a minor issue upon arrival: our keys weren’t in the locker as expected. After a quick message to the owners, the cleaning team responded promptly. It turned out they had forgotten to return the keys after prepping the apartment. A small miscommunication, but it was resolved quickly and professionally.

Aside from that brief mix-up, the process was smooth and stress-free. Once the keys were in hand, it took just minutes to get inside and start enjoying the space. If everything’s in place, this is one of the easiest and most flexible check-ins you could ask for.

As this is an apartment rather than a hotel, Wasserfall Lodge C1 offers a more independent and homey experience, something we appreciated. The space is built with comfort and practicality in mind. There’s a fully equipped kitchen with everything you need to cook proper meals, from pots and pans to a dishwasher and Nespresso machine. It’s part of a large, open-plan living area, which includes a comfortable couch, dining table, and plenty of space to relax, making it easy for the person cooking to still be part of the conversation.

Inside the lodge, there are two separate bedrooms, both surprisingly spacious and tastefully furnished. One of them has direct access to a private terrace, which was a great bonus, perfect for morning coffee with a mountain view. Everything was spotless on arrival, and the overall feel of the place was modern, warm, and well thought out. First impressions? Very positive, it’s the kind of place you settle into quickly and don’t want to leave.

One thoughtful feature we appreciated at Wasserfall Lodge C1 was that the toilet is in a separate room from the main bathroom. This small but practical detail makes sharing the space with others much more comfortable. The main bathroom itself is modern and well-equipped, featuring a spacious walk-in showerwashing machine, and even a private sauna. We didn’t end up using the sauna since we visited in the middle of summer (and it was already hot enough!), but we can easily imagine how perfect it would be to unwind in it daily after skiing in winter. The bathroom was clean, modern, and functional—exactly what you’d hope for in a lodge designed for longer stays.

One thing we would have appreciated would be having washing powder there, as we didn’t bring any with us. So this was missing.

One of the unexpected perks of our stay was being on the ground floor, which provided us with direct access to the terrace and a small, green garden area just outside the apartment. It was such a nice bonus to be able to step outside in the morning with a coffee or unwind in the fresh alpine air without even leaving the lodge. Whether it was for soaking up the mountain views, letting the kids stretch their legs, or simply enjoying a peaceful moment outdoors, this little outdoor space added significantly to the overall experience and felt like a plus.

  • Free underground parking (1 spot included)
  • Free WiFi throughout the apartment
  • Private terrace with direct garden access (ground floor perk)
  • Fully equipped kitchen: oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, toaster, kettle, coffee machine
  • Sauna inside the bathroom – perfect for winter stays
  • Spacious bathroom + separate toilet
  • Washing machine & dryer – ideal for longer stays
  • Fireplace in the living area
  • Satellite TV and board games available
  • Vacuum cleaner and drying rack included
  • Skiing nearby + dedicated ski storage
  • Non-smoking apartment with heating
  • Languages spoken: German, English, Dutch

Value for Money

For our 4-day, 3-night stay in the Apartment with Mountain View, we paid a total of €689.88. While that might feel a bit steep at first glance, we’d say the value depends on how you’re traveling. If you’re coming as a group or family, it makes perfect sense. The spacious layout, two bedrooms, large living area, and full kitchen make it easy to share the cost while still enjoying plenty of room and comfort. However, if you’re traveling solo or as a couple, the price might feel a bit high for what’s essentially a self-service apartment.

There were also a few minor but noticeable oversights that impacted the overall value. For example, while the kitchen was technically fully equipped with all the essentials for cooking, there were no trash bags or separate bins to follow the detailed waste-sorting instructions provided—odd, especially in a country like Austria, where recycling is taken seriously. It felt like the setup expected guests to be sustainable, but didn’t fully enable it.

The parking situation, as mentioned earlier, was another drawback: only one garage space was included, despite the apartment being designed for multiple guests, and the lot was mostly empty. These might seem like small things, but when you’re paying close to €700 for a few nights, you expect those details to be sorted.

That said, the views, space, and overall experience were still enjoyable, and the apartment provided a cozy and relaxing stay. In short: great value for money if you’re splitting costs as a group—but a bit harder to justify for a solo or couples’ stay, given the price and a few rough edges in execution.

★★★☆☆

Wasserfall Lodge C1 delivers a stylish and comfortable stay in one of Austria’s most scenic mountain villages. The spacious layout, sleek interior, and thoughtful features, such as the private sauna and open-plan living area, create a welcoming, home-like atmosphere, perfect for relaxing after a day on the slopes or trails. While it’s not without its quirks, such as limited parking and a few missing details that detract from the “fully equipped” promise, the overall experience remains very positive, especially when shared with friends or family.

The self-check-in system, prime location just minutes from the ski lift, and peaceful village setting all add to the convenience and charm. If you’re looking for a memorable alpine escape that blends modern comfort with laid-back independence, Wasserfall Lodge C1 is a good choice, particularly for groups or longer stays. With a few smalladjustments, it could easily go from great to exceptional. We’d stay again and recommend it for anyone seeking fresh air, space, and a bit of everyday luxury in the mountains.
