Tivoli Amusement Park or simply Tivoli

Tivoli is an amusement park in the center of Copenhagen right next to the central train station and is the second oldest amusement park in the world.  The oldest amusement park in the world is also located in Copenhagen – Bakken. The Tivoli Gardens opened on 15 August 1843 and is operating today. We waddled in as well, and it was like stepping into a different dimension.

Waddling around Tivoli Gardens

Entering Tivoli Gardens feels like magic. Like you are transformed into a different place. We were waddling around Copenhagen, doing some sightseeing, and Tivoli was on our next stop.

At the entrance, the staff is validating the tickets or checking the Copenhagen Card. They wear very nice uniforms which already tell you this will be magical.

As we waddled through the gates, we were suddenly in another world. The outside business was forgotten.

Tivoli Gardens

You can’t hear the sound of the cars or the nearby train station, and it’s only rides, games, and laughter. We didn’t know where to look and were amazed.

The first street took us down the games alley. There you find the typical games and also some more unusual. We ended up playing horse raising but didn’t win. It was fun, though.

In case you go in like us cashless, do not worry – on the games, it is possible to pay by card. This got us. Never before have we seen such a possibility.

Also, if you have some cash in banknotes, there are machines where you can exchange them for coins. Very convenient.

Horse racing game at Tivoli Gardens

As we waddled deeper into the amusement park, more and more rides greeted us. Tivoli has around 30 rides suitable for all ages. It is divided into sections – like we entered the Asian (or China) section greeted by a red gate, then later we stumbled upon an Arab section, and so on. In a sense, it feels like traveling the world.

Among the popular rides are The Denom, Rutschebanen, Himmelskibet (seen from afar), or The Golden Tower.

Kids ride at Tivoli

All rides are designed to match Tivoli’s architecture and gardens.

It feels like magic waddling around, and you can spend a whole day here. Of course, be prepared for queues on the rides. To see what rides they have, visit their website – link.

But you don’t need to go on rides to have fun. We didn’t manage to ride anything, due to the long queues and short time, but we had fun nevertheless.

There are various restaurants scattered around Tivoli. You don’t have to worry about getting hungry or grabbing a snack. There are many shops where you can buy souvenirs and other things.

An interesting fact about Tivoli is that the famous Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen was entranced by Tivoli, and apparently, Walt Disney came here as well to get inspired before opening his park carrying his name – Walt Disney World.

Tivoli is a playground for young and old, and it’s a guarantee you will have fun. And if you are coming over during Christmas time, the Tivoli Gardens are even more magical with its own Christmas Market inside.

Have a lot of fun when visiting Tivoli Gardens.
