Alsos of Nea Smyrni is one of Athens’ most beloved urban parks, a green oasis a few kilometers south of the historic city center. Spanning around 50 acres, the park was designed in the 1930s. Today offers shady walking paths, a small lake with a picturesque bridge, playgrounds, cafés, and open spaces where locals come to relax away from the busy streets of Athens. Nea Smyrni was founded by Greek refugees from Smyrna (modern-day Izmir, Turkey) after the population exchange in 1922, and the park became a symbolic community gathering place for the new neighborhood. During a recent waddle through the park, loborosh added a little extra mystery to the landscape by hiding one of the penguin stones here. Somewhere among the trees and winding paths, a tiny penguin traveler now waits quietly to be discovered.
