In the lower part of Bergamo, just outside the Venetian walls, stands the historic Torre del Galgario, a medieval tower that once formed part of the city’s defensive system. Built in the 14th century, it originally served as a fortified structure protecting the eastern approach to the city. The name “Galgario” is believed to come from gallows, as this area was once associated with public executions outside the main city gates. Today, the tower stands quietly among modern streets, a reminder of Bergamo’s layered past. Thanks to lk_lh_15 and loborosh, this spot is now also home to one of our penguin stones. Before settling into its hiding place, the little penguin watched marathon runners pass by and cheered them on with full waddle spirit, soaking up the energy of the race before beginning its own still adventure here in Bergamo.
