High above the historic heart of Bergamo, the impressive Pezzi di Artiglieria sit along the mighty Venetian walls that encircle Città Alta. These massive cannons once formed part of the defensive system built during the Republic of Venice’s rule, protecting Bergamo from potential invasions. Today, they offer one of the most photogenic viewpoints over the rooftops, the plains of Lombardy, and even the distant Alps on a clear day. A lesser-known fact is that although the Venetian walls were completed in the 16th century, they were never actually used in battle, meaning Bergamo’s historic center was preserved almost untouched for centuries. And now, thanks to lk_lh_15 and loborosh, this historic military spot holds an even more playful secret. One of our penguin stones is hidden here, quietly waddling into history and waiting to be discovered.
