Kremsmünster Abbey in Upper Austria is one of the country’s oldest and most fascinating monasteries, founded in 777 by Duke Tassilo III. The complex is best known for its stunning Baroque architecture and its unique “Mathematical Tower,” an 18th-century scientific observatory that once served as a center for astronomy, meteorology, and natural sciences. As you waddle through the peaceful gardens and tall old trees surrounding the abbey, keep an eye out: somewhere outside the abbey along the path, hidden in the stone wall, a tiny penguin stone is waiting for a curious traveler to discover it.
