Grand Cayman is the largest of the three Cayman Islands. It is located in the western Caribbean Sea, south of Cuba and northwest of Jamaica. The island covers an area of about 76 square miles (197 square kilometers). Christopher Columbus is credited with discovering the Cayman Islands in 1503, during his fourth and final voyage to the New World. The islands became a British Overseas Territory in 1670 under the Treaty of Madrid, which ceded control of Jamaica and the surrounding islands to Britain. The population of Grand Cayman is approximately 65,000, with a diverse mix of nationalities and cultures. English is the official language, reflecting the island’s British heritage. It was our dear friend tukesszino who took several penguin stones on an adventure and left one behind at Grand Cayman. The penguin stone is located on a 7-mile-long beach, so you have to locate the right tree to find it.
