Bongeunsa Temple in Seoul, South Korea, is a serene oasis nestled among the city’s modern skyscrapers. Founded in the 8th century, it offers a beautiful glimpse into Korea’s Buddhist heritage, with colorful lanterns, ancient halls, and serene courtyards. One of the most striking sights is the massive Maitreya Buddha statue, which stands 23 meters tall and watches over the city. Bongeunsa was once the main temple of Korean Buddhism during the Joseon era. And now there’s a small stone penguin hidden away. You have to waddle through the grounds and find a peaceful space, and underneath a rock, you will find the penguin stone.
