The tree at Hrebienok in the High Tatras, Slovakia, is one of those quiet mountain witnesses you pass without rushing, surrounded by spruce forests and crisp alpine air. Trees here grow in tough conditions, shaped by strong winds, heavy snow, and long winters, which is why many of them have slightly twisted trunks and thick bark adapted to the harsh Tatras climate. Hrebienok itself sits at an important crossroads of hiking routes and has long been a gateway for mountain adventures, from gentle forest waddles to serious alpine climbs. On one of their waddles, luciakontsek and loborosh took a penguin stone along and left it here, tucked into the mountain setting, waiting for the next curious hiker to spot it during their wander through the Tatras. It’s hidden underneath moss.
