Dechtáre is a small but fascinating spot on the shores of Liptovská Mara, known for its quiet atmosphere and powerful history. Dechtáre is one of several villages that were partially flooded in the 1970s during the construction of the Liptovská Mara reservoir, which today plays a key role in flood protection, hydropower, and recreation in the region. While much of the old village now rests beneath the water, the area has found a new life as a peaceful lakeside escape with wide views of the Low Tatras. And here is a fun Lifeguin twist: thanks to luciakontsek and loborosh, there is now a penguin stone hidden here, waiting to be discovered by a curious wanderer waddling along the water’s edge.
