As we continued our waddle across the Tauplitzalm plateau, we came across the Grazer Hütte. It is a charming alpine hut at an altitude of around 1,600 meters; the hut offers breathtaking views of the surrounding Totes Gebirge (Dead Mountains) and serves as a popular base for hikers, mountaineers, and nature lovers exploring the region. The plateau is known for its network of crystal-clear mountain lakes, rare alpine flora, and a diverse range of hiking trails suitable for all levels. Grazer Hütte itself is traditionally built and offers hearty Styrian cuisine, cozy accommodations, and a warm atmosphere, reflecting Austria’s classic alpine hospitality. Interestingly, the area is also a haven for botanists in summer, thanks to its unique limestone soil that supports a rich variety of wildflowers. In winter, the Tauplitzalm transforms into a snow-covered wonderland, making Grazer Hütte a beloved stop for cross-country skiers and snowshoe hikers. Close by, we found a rock, which was a perfect hiding spot for a penguin stone. Enjoy the views on the way.
