Húsar, the oldest settlement on the island of Kalsoy, is a quiet village with roots tracing back to the Viking Age. Known historically for farming and fishing, it remains one of the few inhabited spots along Kalsoy’s dramatic coast. At the entrance to the village, there’s a simple wooden bench that turned out to be a perfect little rest stop—here you can sit down, soak in the views of the surrounding mountains and sea, or even give a friendly stroke to the curious cows grazing nearby. For us, it was also the ideal place to tuck away a penguin stone, leaving a small surprise for the next traveler to discover in this peaceful corner of the Faroes. Look closely at the rocks at the crossing, and underneath one is a penguin stone.
