Schloss Niederweiden, located near Engelhartstetten in Lower Austria, is a smaller yet charming Baroque hunting lodge that once belonged to Prince Eugene of Savoy and later to the Habsburgs. Unlike its grand neighbor, Schloss Hof, Niederweiden has a more intimate feel, with its richly decorated hunting hall and beautiful gardens that were used for elaborate outdoor feasts. An interesting fact is that Empress Maria Theresa often came here with her family, and the lodge’s kitchens are still preserved today, offering a glimpse into imperial culinary traditions. While exploring the grounds, we came across a massive old tree that seemed to hold centuries of stories—and it became the perfect spot to leave one of our penguin stones behind, waiting for the next curious traveler to discover it.
