While staying in Pribilina, we went for a waddle to explore Račková Dolina. On the way, we came across a model of a Tajch (small dam), which demonstrates how a small dam functions on a mountain stream. This model represents the Tajch built in the Úká Valley on the Račková mountain stream—the largest small dam of its kind in Slovakia. Built in 1935 based on a design by Professor Skatula, the dam manages significant sediment displacement, with the stream carrying about 122,000 cubic meters of deposits each year. Small dams like this are transverse structures placed in mountain streambeds. They serve to trap sediment resulting from erosion in the upper parts of the stream and its drainage basin, and to regulate high water levels that might otherwise lead to downstream flooding. Of course, we decided to hide a penguin stone here. Next to the small damn, is a tree where you can find the penguin treasure.
