Mount Kosciuszko is the highest mountain in Australia, standing at 2,228 meters above sea level. It is in the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales, within the Kosciuszko National Park. Hikers often reach the summit via a popular walking track that begins at Thredbo, offering sweeping views of alpine landscapes. Despite its impressive status, Mount Kosciuszko is relatively easy to climb compared to other continental high points. An interesting fact is that the mountain was originally named “Mount Townsend,” but was later renamed by Polish explorer Paul Strzelecki in 1840 to honor Polish national hero Tadeusz Kościuszko. luciakontsek and loborosh decided to submit it as well, and not even the cloudy weather didn’t stop them. As they summited, they hid a penguin stone behind them. And not any, but a golden one. As you know, there will be only one per country.
