Záruby Sedlo is a mountain pass within western Slovakia’s Little Carpathians (Malé Karpaty). It lies near the range’s highest peak, Záruby, which rises to 768 meters above sea level. This area is renowned for its lush beech and oak forests, dramatic limestone cliffs, and sweeping views over the surrounding countryside. Popular with hikers and nature enthusiasts, Záruby Sedlo serves as a key waypoint on the Štefánikova magistrála, a long-distance trail traversing the Carpathians. Rich in biodiversity and cultural heritage, the region also offers glimpses of historical landmarks like the ruins of Ostrý Kameň Castle, making it a favored destination for outdoor recreation and quiet reflection. As we came to the crossroad on our waddle, we knew this was a good spot to hide a penguin stone. And there was even a better tree there to do so. You can find it opposite the sign if you squat down a little.
