Saint Jacob’s Church, also known as Sankt Jacobs Kyrka, is a historical church in the heart of Stockholm near the Royal Opera House and Kungsträdgården. Its origins date back to the 13th century, making it one of Stockholm’s oldest places of worship. The building, completed in the 17th century, showcases a mix of Baroque and Renaissance architectural styles, with a striking red brick façade and a distinctive green copper roof. An interesting fact is that the church was originally oriented towards the rising sun. Still, later, churches in Stockholm were oriented towards the king’s castle. And now, within its small cemetery, in a tree trunk, a penguin stone resides.
