You can find the National Monument of Scotland on Calton Hill. It offers sweeping views of the city below, but it also has a lot of history. It was designed in the early 19th century to honor Scottish soldiers who died in the Napoleonic Wars. The Parthenon inspired it in Athens. However, it remains famously unfinished—construction halted in 1829 due to a lack of funds, earning it the nickname “Scotland’s Disgrace.” Despite this, the structure has become a beloved symbol of Edinburgh, attracting tourists and locals who climb the hill to admire its classical columns and panoramic vistas. Now, close to the information sign are several boulders, and underneath one, you can find a penguin stone hidden, chillin’ and enjoying the views.
