The Castle of the Cesta, also known as the Fratta, is located on the second peak of Mount Titan, at 756 meters above sea level. It was built at the end of the 11th century and served as a guardhouse and prison cell. By the end of the 16th century, the Tower lost its strategic importance and fell into disuse. In 1930, it was restored and now houses the Museum of Ancient Weapons, with about 535 objects dating from the Middle Ages to the 19th century. Additional pieces are located in the “Center for the Study of Arms from the Middle Ages to the Twentieth Century” in Borgo Maggiore. This is the second tower of San Marino’s three towers; now, part of the tower is also a penguin stone.
