The Montale Tower, also known as the Third Tower, dates back to the late 13th century. Despite being the smallest in size, it played a strategic role in defense due to its advantageous lookout position. The fortress has a pentagonal plan and has been restored several times over the centuries, with the most recent restoration in 1935. Inside is an 8-meter-deep dungeon known as the “bottom of the tower.” Surrounding the Montale Tower are ancient large boulders of rock stacked in a primitive manner to form walls. Please note that the Montale Tower is not open to the public for visits and can only be admired from the outside. But it is a hell of a visit. The views are beyond breathtaking. The penguin stone is no part of the tower.
