The Zaanse Schans is a residential area that brings the 18th and 19th centuries to life. Despite the neighborhood being a popular tourist spot, it’s important to remember that people still live here. As you explore, you can visit the bakery museum, witness the making of traditional clogs at the warehouse, and tour the cheese factory, pewter foundry, and various windmills. This unique part of the Netherlands is filled with wooden houses, mills, barns, and workshops. You can also enjoy activities like cycling or sailing, shopping, and dining at the pancake restaurant. It is very close to Amsterdam, which makes it a perfect one-day visit. Of course, we had to leave a penguin’s tone behind.
