Due to its size, the travertine lake Kráter is considered the largest travertine lake in Slovakia. At the same time, there is no similar watered travertine crater with an exceptionally well-developed edge wall, as in the Spa Vyšná Ružbachy at the foot of Spišská Magura. Moreover, since 1967, this unique place has been included among Slovakia’s protected natural formations. The name Kráter and the shape evoke a volcanic origin or perhaps the remains of a meteorite impact. However, the shape of the Crater, as we know it today, was created by settling travertine from flowing mineral water. This created a travertine mound, which collapsed over time. The collapsed area was subsequently filled with mineral water. The lake is bordered by a prominent rock rim approximately 1 to 2 meters high. It is a unique place in Slovakia, and it deserves to have a penguin stone. It is somewhere about the stone rim.
