Postojna Cave is a 24.34 km long karst cave system near Postojna in southwestern Slovenia. It is the country’s second-longest cave system and one of its top tourist sites. The Pivka River created the caves. This subterranean marvel is renowned for its stunning formations of stalactites and stalagmites, attracting visitors for over 200 years. A unique feature of the cave is its electric train, which allows you to explore the vast underground network in comfort, making it the only cave in the world with such an attraction. An interesting fact about Postojna Cave is that it is home to the olm, or “human fish,” an extraordinary, blind amphibian that can live up to 100 years and survive without food for up to a decade. This fascinating creature adds to the cave’s allure, making it a must-visit destination, so of course, we left a penguin stone behind. It is at stop number 11, at the top of one of the boulders.
