You can’t overlook the Bled Castle as you waddle around the Bled Lake. It is perched atop a steep cliff overlooking Lake Bled. It is a majestic medieval fortress that offers stunning views of the lake, Bled Island, and the surrounding Julian Alps. Dating back to the 11th century, it is the oldest castle in Slovenia, showcasing a rich history through its well-preserved Romanesque tower, museum exhibits, and charming chapel adorned with frescoes. An interesting fact about Bled Castle is that it houses a fascinating wine cellar where you can bottle your wine using traditional methods, adding a unique, interactive experience to your visit. Unfortunately, we didn’t manage to visit the site, but I’ll definitely go next time. However, we waddled up the steep cliff and enjoyed the views. Beware, there are lots of stairs. Once up, say hi to the penguin stone, which is chilling in the wall.
