Restaurants Worth Visiting When in Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik is filled with restaurants on every street and tucked into every little alley, each one tempting you with delicious smells and handwritten menus. Sometimes it’s hard to decide where to eat or what to order first. We wish we had more time to explore the city’s food scene; there were so many spots we wanted to try, from seaside seafood grills to cozy cafés hidden behind stone walls. Still, we managed to taste quite a few, and here are our favorite restaurants in Dubrovnik that we can honestly recommend after our waddles through the Old Town and beyond.
Lady Pi-Pi
Lady Pi-Pi will catch your eye right away, first because of its cheeky name, and second because it’s one of the most talked-about restaurants in Dubrovnik. Most people head here for dinner, but we decided to go for lunch, and it turned out to be a perfect choice.
Be prepared to waddle up quite a few stairs to reach it, as it’s beneath the old city walls. The climb is worth every step. At the entrance, you’ll spot an interesting statue that explains the restaurant’s name, a fun detail that makes everyone smile and stop for a photo.
Once you reach the terrace, the view will leave you speechless. It’s easily one of the best views in all of Dubrovnik. The outdoor seating area is so inviting that even people just passing by often come up to take pictures. The atmosphere is relaxed, local, and full of that Mediterranean charm.
Lady Pi-Pi is also the only place in Dubrovnik’s Old Town permitted to have an outdoor grill, and you can actually watch as the chefs prepare your food right in front of you. We were lucky to get a table with a view, and our waitress was incredibly kind, recommending some of their specialties. Naturally, we went for seafood, because when in Croatia, that’s what you should eat.

We ordered the Seafood Platter for Two, and it turned out to be much more generous than we expected. Served with a fresh salad, it’s a great choice if you want to taste a little bit of everything, not just the catch of the day. The platter included tuna steak, tiger shrimp, fish fillets, mussels, squid, and grilled vegetables, all perfectly cooked over charcoal. The smoky flavor mixed beautifully with the seasoning, simple, authentic, and absolutely delicious.
Pro Penguin Tip: If you’re planning to visit for dinner, make a reservation in advance. Even though their Facebook page says “no reservations,” the waitress told us they’re usually fully booked in the evening. So plan ahead, especially during summer.

Konoba Kenova
Konoba Kenova is a relatively new addition to Dubrovnik’s dining scene, but it already stands out thanks to its excellent location. Instead of being tucked inside the Old Town, it sits just outside the Ploče Gate, offering a beautiful view of the city walls. It feels a little different from dining in one of Dubrovnik’s charming alleys, quieter, more open, and with a fantastic backdrop.
The name itself has a story: “Kenova” is a local expression meaning “what’s new?”, a fitting name for a restaurant that brings a fresh energy to Dubrovnik’s food scene.
We visited Kenova for dinner and loved both the atmosphere and the view. We were lucky to get a table, as most were already reserved. The seating arrangement is especially unique; the tables are set along a staircase, so no matter where you sit, you’ll enjoy a clear view of the Old Town. It honestly felt like sitting in an open-air cinema, only with much better food.

Best if you can, come here around sunset. Watching Dubrovnik light up as you dine is pure magic, and you’re still close enough to the Old Town to continue your evening with drinks afterward.
We enjoyed it so much that we ordered more than one dish. We started with the prawn bisque with herbal focaccia crostini, which was rich and flavorful (just a touch salty). Then came the homemade gnocchi and homemade ravioli with prawn filling and brown butter, both absolute heaven for our taste buds—naturally, a bottle of local red wine had to join the table too.
And because no dinner is complete without dessert, we finished with their cake of the day, a chocolate delight, and a mille-feuille — both divine and beautifully presented.
The service was warm and friendly; our waiter was chatty and clearly passionate about the restaurant. It took a little longer to get the check at the end, but honestly, with that stunning view in front of us, we didn’t mind one bit.
Although Konoba Kenova hasn’t been around for long, it’s clear they know exactly what they’re doing. If you’re looking for a romantic dinner spot in Dubrovnik with great food, views, and local charm, this is the right place.

Taj Mahal
Don’t get fooled by the name, we’re not recommending an Indian restaurant, but an authentic Bosnian one. The name Taj Mahal might confuse first-time visitors, but once you step inside, the aromas and flavors make it clear that this place is all about traditional Balkan comfort food.
Taj Mahal is in one of the narrow, picturesque alleys of Dubrovnik’s Old Town. It’s easy to miss, as it shares the street with a few other restaurants and a pizzeria, but trust us, it’s worth finding. The atmosphere feels cozy and rustic, the perfect hideaway for a hearty meal after exploring the city.
Bosnian cuisine is all about meat, spices, and slow-cooked flavor. Dishes are often prepared with natural juices from vegetables and mild seasonings that let the ingredients shine. It’s not the best choice for vegetarians or vegans, but for meat lovers, it’s absolute heaven.

We went to Taj Mahal for lunch, and honestly, thank the gods we did, because we needed the rest of the afternoon to digest. So, if you’re planning a visit, keep that in mind. It’s filling, rich, and perfect if you’re heading for a relaxed evening afterward.
Wanting to try as much as possible, we ordered the “Ghingis Kan” Plate a generous platter for two loaded with all kinds of grilled meat: čevapi, chicken kebab, pljeskavica, sudžukica, rump steak, and chicken. To be honest, it was enough for more than two people! Everything was grilled to perfection, juicy, and beautifully seasoned. We enjoyed every bite and didn’t want to leave a single piece behind.
The service was lovely, our waitress was friendly, gave great recommendations, and made us feel welcome from the start. The food was exceptional, the atmosphere cozy, and the portions more than generous.
If you’re craving authentic Balkan flavors in Dubrovnik, this is your spot. Taj Mahal easily made it into our top three restaurants in Dubrovnik, and we’d go back in a heartbeat.

Peppino’s Gelato Garden
Waddling around Dubrovnik, you’ll quickly notice that the city is full of ice cream shops, each one looking more tempting than the last. But if you ask us, there’s one place that truly stands out, Peppino’s Gelato Garden, located near Ploče Gate.
There’s actually another branch, Peppino’s Gelato Factory, also in Dubrovnik, but the Garden has a special kind of charm. From the moment you step inside, it feels like you’ve been transported from the cobblestone streets and ancient stone walls into a small, magical garden filled with sweet aromas and color.
The interior is beautiful, cozy, and inviting, the perfect stop during a hot Dubrovnik afternoon. What we loved most was their selection of non-dairy (vegan) ice creams, which were absolutely delicious. It’s rare to find vegan ice cream that’s truly creamy and flavorful, but they nailed it.
We ordered just one scoop, and it felt like two, generous portions, smooth texture, and perfectly balanced flavor. Whether you’re vegan or not, Peppino’s is a must-visit for anyone with a sweet tooth.

Dubrovnik’s food scene completely won us over. From seaside grills to tucked-away alley cafés, every meal here comes with a story, a smile, and often a view you’ll never forget. We tasted as much as we could, fresh seafood, homemade pasta, rich Balkan flavors, and that heavenly ice cream, but we still feel like we only scratched the surface. Every restaurant had something unique: the warmth of the people, the quality of the food, and that special Dubrovnik charm. It’s the kind of city where dining becomes part of the adventure itself.
We can’t wait to come back and keep exploring more of Dubrovnik’s flavors, because there’s always another dish to discover, another terrace to enjoy, and another reason to waddle back for more.
Pack your appetite and waddle into Dubrovnik’s delicious side, one bite at a time.
