The Slovak National Gallery in Bratislava is one of those places we had waddled past so many times, always saying “next time.” And finally, we came to visit properly. Sitting right by the Danube, the gallery is famous for its bold bridge-like extension connecting two historic buildings, a piece of architecture that locals once debated heavily but today feels like an inseparable part of the city’s skyline. Inside, you can wander through centuries of Slovak and international art, from Gothic altarpieces to modern installations. One interesting fact many people do not know is that the gallery’s iconic “bridge” section was closed for years during a massive reconstruction and reopened only recently, giving the whole complex a completely new life. After exploring the exhibitions and enjoying the peaceful courtyard, we left a little piece of our own story behind. One of our penguin stones is now hidden quietly in one of the trees in the courtyard, waiting for someone curious enough to look up and find it.
