Near Simon’s Town, Boulders Beach is one of the very few places in the world where you can walk just a few meters away from wild African penguins in their natural habitat. The beach is famous for its giant, round granite boulders, which are over 500 million years old and create sheltered coves where penguins nest, swim, and waddle around, completely unbothered by visitors on the wooden boardwalks. An interesting fact is that this colony only established itself here in 1982 with just two breeding pairs, and today it has grown to thousands of penguins. And apart from the regular penguins you can spot along the sand and rocks, tuskesszino hid one of the penguin stones here, quietly joining the colony and waiting to be discovered.
