The Liberty Monument stands just outside the old Venetian walls of Nicosia. It commemorates Cyprus’s struggle for independence from British rule. Unveiled in 1973, the monument depicts a central figure of Liberty releasing prisoners from colonial chains, surrounded by symbolic figures representing the Cypriot people. Although designed by renowned sculptor Achilleas Vasileiou, the statue remained incomplete for years due to political tensions, making its final unveiling a powerful statement of resilience and delayed freedom rather than a simple historical marker. lk_lh_15 and loborosh also hid a penguin stone here, quietly adding a small, playful layer of modern storytelling to this deeply symbolic spot.
