The Imjingak Sign in Gyeonggi-do marks one of South Korea’s most meaningful sites, located near the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). Built to honor the memories of families separated by the Korean War, Imjingak is a place of reflection and hope for reunification. The area features memorials, a Freedom Bridge, and exhibits that tell stories of resilience and peace. An interesting fact is that Imjingak was constructed in 1972, allowing displaced Koreans to look toward their hometowns in the North. And right behind the colorful Imjingak sign, hidden among the rocks, you’ll find a little penguin stone, a quiet symbol of unity watching over the border.
