Trsat Castle rises above Rijeka on a hilltop that has been a lookout point since prehistoric times, offering sweeping views over the city and Kvarner Bay. The site once held a Roman fort, and the current walls date back to the 13th century when the Frankopan family turned it into a medieval stronghold. Today, the castle is a cultural hub, hosting concerts, art exhibitions, and festivals within its restored courtyards. One curious fact is that the castle is linked to the famous Trsat Sanctuary below, connected by a legendary “Pilgrimage Stairs” of 561 steps that locals still climb today. And if you wander around its stone walls, keep an eye out — loborosh hid a penguin stone behind in the castle walls, waiting to be discovered.
