In Syðradalur on Kalsoy, a solemn memorial stands in honor of the many Faroese fishermen who tragically lost their lives at sea. The monument, shaped like a boat’s bow, looks out over the waters that once carried them to their livelihoods but also claimed their lives. It is a place of quiet reflection, where the power of the ocean and the resilience of the islanders come together in a poignant reminder of the hardships of life in the Faroe Islands. During our visit, we placed a penguin stone nearby, hoping it would encourage others to pause for a moment of remembrance, to think of the lives lost, and to carry their memory forward. Look at the stones in the memorial. But be respectful as always.
