High above the village of Chmeľnica, a weathered wooden cross and a lone bench invite you to pause and take in sweeping views of rooftops and forested hills. Just a few steps away, hidden in the roots of a nearby tree, we left a penguin stone for the curious to find. It’s a spot that blends quiet beauty with cultural intrigue—Chmeľnica is one of the few places in Slovakia where a rare Silesian-German dialect still lingers, a living echo of the Carpathian-German heritage that has shaped this hillside for centuries.
