On the Isle of Skye’s westernmost edge, Neist Point is one of Scotland’s most iconic and windswept viewpoints. This rugged headland offers jaw-dropping views of the Atlantic Ocean and leads to the Neist Point Lighthouse, which has stood watch since 1909. The lighthouse, still operational but automated since 1990, was designed by David Alan Stevenson, a member of the famous Stevenson family of lighthouse engineers (and a cousin of Treasure Island author Robert Louis Stevenson). The short but steep hike down to the lighthouse rewards you with cinematic views, especially at sunset when the cliffs glow gold. Keep your eyes peeled, whales, dolphins, and basking sharks are sometimes spotted off the coast, making it a favorite not just for photographers but for wildlife lovers too. Thanks to petusica, a penguin stone found its home here as well.
