The Church of St. Margaret in Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou, often hailed as a “Baroque pearl” of the Vysočina region, is an architectural masterpiece seamlessly integrated into the grand chateau ensemble. Constructed between 1716 and 1782—likely under the guiding vision of Jakob Prandtauer and Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt—the church boasts an oval nave, a soaring dome, and twin towers that command the skyline. Inside, you are awestruck by a 450 m² ceiling fresco by Karel František Tepper depicting the heavenly martyrs, crowned by “God’s Eye” at 44 m high, an artistic marvel elevated further by later works from Jan Knor and Otmar Oliva. Beside the church, the Church Tower provides a breathtaking vantage point. We waddled its heights to take in sweeping panoramas of the meticulously landscaped French parterre and the broader castle gardens. You can waddle up the tower by yourself; no guided tours are needed, and maybe you will also find the penguin stone we hid in its walls. But for that, you have to waddle to the top.
