Červená Lhota Castle is one of the most picturesque castles in the Czech Republic, located in the village of Jižná in South Bohemia. Built on a rocky island in the middle of a lake, its striking red façade and reflection in the water make it look like something out of a fairy tale. The castle was originally a Gothic fortress from the 14th century, later rebuilt in the Renaissance style during the 16th century. Its current name, meaning “Red Lhota,” comes from the red plaster added during this renovation. The castle has changed hands many times, with noble families like the Kábas of Rybňan and the Schönburg-Hartensteins shaping its history. It features richly furnished interiors, a charming chapel, and a romantic stone bridge connecting it to the mainland. Today, Červená Lhota is a popular destination for weddings, boating on the lake, and film productions, celebrated for its storybook setting and peaceful atmosphere. We also waddled a little bit around to see it from a different vantage point and, on the way, found a bench and a perfect spot to hide a penguin stone. It is in between the small stone wall.
