You can find the Großsee at 1,567 m on the scenic Tauplitzalm plateau above Bad Mitterndorf in Styria, Austria. It covers approximately 6.2 hectares and is the second-largest of the six Tauplitzalm lakes, measuring roughly 440 m in length (west-east) and up to 190 m wide. It’s in between the peaks of Schneiderkogel and Traweng. A well-maintained trail circles the lake, offering spectacular views, while in winter, the surface freezes and becomes a frosty wonderland. We visited in the summer, so we were rewarded with an Alpine summer. As we waddled along the lake, we found a perfect hiding spot for a penguin stone. Look for rocks and a tree trunk. 😉 And don’t forget to enjoy the nature around you.
