The Chapel of the Holy Cross (Slovak: Kaplnka Svätého kríža) stands in the Starý háj forest park in the Petržalka district of Bratislava. This charming neo-Gothic structure was built in 1909 and features a stone cross from 1869, which was discovered after the great flood of 1809 that inundated the area now known as Petržalka. The chapel was constructedby the firm of Ludwig Gratzl and was consecrated by priest Edmund Zandt on September 26, 1909. Inside, a memorial plaque lists the names of benefactors and committee members involved in its construction. Interestingly, the chapel is in the heart of Slovakia’s largest housing estate, offering a serene spiritual retreat amidst a bustling urban setting. Now, if you waddle close by and look up at one of the trees, you will find a penguin stone looking down at you, placed by Roxy.
